![]() Paramount Network’s Waco, a six-episode miniseries, dramatizes the events leading up to and the conflict itself between the FBI, ATF, and the Branch Davidians under the leadership of David Koresh. The 1993 Waco siege in Texas was a shocking and violent 51-day standoff that led to many lives lost in a fire and a clear insight into how far cults can go and how dangerous they can become. Soon, however, Ally discovers that these attackers may have a connection to the growing influence of the alt-right in their community. This is made worse by attacks from a group of assailants dressed as clowns that only she experiences, leading those around her to doubt her already unstable mind. Set in the divisive aftermath of the 2016 presidential elections, Ally Mayfair-Richards, a gay, married, local restaurant owner, begins to experience increased anxiety and paranoia following Trump’s win. The horror anthology series American Horror Story has become somewhat of a cult classic (pun absolutely intended) among fans of the supernatural horror genre.ĪHS: Cult takes a different approach to the trope by mainly following the perspective of someone outside the political cult central to the story. Meyerism, essentially an amalgamation of various religious practices, primarily believes in the importance of personal spiritual enlightenment.ĭuring a particularly illuminating retreat, Eddie experiences an epiphany that makes him doubt everything he and his family had believed in. The Path follows Eddie Lane, his wife Sarah, and their two children as they live their lives within the fictional Meyerist Movement. Interestingly, the show was originally titled The Way but was subsequently renamed to avoid any misunderstanding with The Way International, a real-life Christian ministry (that has, in fact, been called a cult as well). ![]() Let’s start with something a little lighter and not so extreme on the cult aspect: Hulu’s The Path, which aired for three seasons before being canceled by the streaming giant. So, sit back, relax, don’t join any cults but do enjoy these shows! The Path, Hulu (2016 – 2018) The TV shows that we’re discussing below showcase just some of the aspects of living with a cult and though largely fictionalized, certainly contain snippets of the truth as well. Most of the time, though, this is taken too far and that’s likely what has led to the largely negative connotations to the word “cult”. I mean, sure, one might argue that there are some cults that are “well-intentioned”, perhaps with the goal of forming a community of like-minded individuals and providing a safe space for them to practice their beliefs, whether political, religious, or what-have-you. San Francisco, California's Animosity has broken up.Let’s address the elephant in the room right off the bat: no matter what way you twist and look at it, cults are scary. Frontman Leo Miller has provided Lambgoat with the following statement: Formed in 2000, the band has released albums with Tribunal Records and Black Market Activities. For those of you wondering about Animosity, you are correct to have assumed that we disbanded. It has been nearly a year since all five of us were in a room (or the same state) together. In this time, we have written zero songs and played zero shows. In short, nothing happened which I mean to say plainly and clearly. We are all still alive and friends, but following our last tour we just did nothing band related. Many of us grew up in this band, and for me personally, Animosity was somehow prioritized over everything including my very own life. This band formed our communities, relationships, experiences and the lens through which we view the world. Eight years later, I look back to being 14 years old playing Animosity shows in garages and backyards and I can honestly say that our musical and experiential goals have been exceeded in ways that once seemed impossible to me. If you haven't gotten enough of Animosity, please rest assured that we have. "This is not to say, that everyone is gone from music. In the time since our last show, Navene finished his spectacular debut solo album called Fleshrot – dementia/dyslexia. Navene wrote played and recorded all the music himself and features beastly vocals from Jonny Davy. Check out the project here ( ) and stay posted for album release info. Also, Navene has teamed up with Tosin Abasi and is drumming in their new band Animals As Leaders. Chase also has a new band called Son of Arelius from which you can expect a full-length album out soon.
